Curriculum

The church Academy works with students on an individualized basis. The entire curriculum is set up so that a student works on the academic level that meets their present ability. We give a diagnostic test to determine this level. If they have learning gaps, these will be filled in. Those who excel in their work may advance at a faster rate. A slow learner may progress at a rate which enables them to absorb the material. We use the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) curriculum

Our curriculum consists of 12 workbooks per subject, per grade level. A student must complete each workbook with an 80% or higher test score before they can go on to material beyond that point.

We test our students annually on national achievement tests (Stanford 10 Achievement Test) to assure they are making satisfactory progress. We also encourage our high school students to take the ACT and SAT college assessment tests. All candidates for graduation must take and pass the Nevada State Proficiency Exam.

Students are encouraged to set goals and accomplish them, develop social skills with peers based on Biblical principles, and seek academic excellence. Each student is assigned an office that consists of a working surface, a bulletin board that they can decorate to their own taste, and side dividers to prevent them from being distracted by their neighbors.

Our goal is to educate our students in an atmosphere that promotes learning of a spiritual, moral, and academic nature.

School Schedule

The Academy follows a regular nine-month school year and observes most national holidays. A calendar of events and holidays is available in the school office. Except for holidays, vacations, etc., school will begin at 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Students will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m. Students must leave the school grounds by 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise arranged with the staff. We do not offer any after-school care.

Graduation

Our school does not accept students on the basis that their graduation is determined by a pre-set date, or by the student’s age. Graduation is determined by performance, not chronology. Time is not a factor; learning is. Therefore, students remain in the program until they have learned the prescribed course of material. This is pre-arranged by a meeting of the parents and staff and cannot be changed by the students themselves, except with the consent of the parents. Parents and students need to understand that putting off completing a PACE workbook only adds additional days to the projected graduation date.

We require that each student obtain at least 23 credits in the required subjects for graduation. One credit is given for every 12 PACEs completed in a given subject. It is also mandatory that the student take and pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam.

Accelerated Christian Education

The church Academy uses the international curriculum published by Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E). A.C.E studies include five core subjects and many electives. The core curriculum provides students with academics, skill-building, reading practice, character and wisdom training, and knowledge of God and His Word. This complete package begins with reading development and progresses through high school, giving students a solid foundation for pursuing their life goals.

Students who are more skilled may progress at a faster rate or may accelerate in the areas of their academic strengths. Slower students are encouraged to do their best but are able to work at their levels of proficiency and proceed as they are capable.

Each core subject consists of 12 PACEs (Packet of Accelerated Christian Education) per level. Typical students work daily on one PACE in each subject and may perform at varying levels. The diagnostic test results help to identify academic weaknesses and prescribe a path to help students catch up. Most students complete at least 70 PACEs per year while maintaining academic balance by completing about the same number of PACEs in each assigned subject.

Core Subjects:

  • Math (Levels K12)
  • English (Levels K12)
  • Literature and Creative Writing (Levels 28)
  • Social Studies (Levels K12)
  • Science (Levels K12)
  • Word Building (Levels K9)
  • Bible Reading (Levels 16)

Electives and Additional Instruction Programs

In order to enhance the core curriculum, A.C.E. offers a number of other program opportunities and courses beneficial to academic growth and development. Each of these courses adds interest and enhancement to the core curriculum and other learning activities.

Our school also participates in the annual regional and international convention put on by A.C.E that includes students from all 50 states and many foreign countries. The International Student Convention is available to upper-grade levels (ages 13 and above) and includes hundreds of categories that students from all over the world compete in.

Numerous students throughout the years from the Academy have taken first place in competitions in woodworking, metalworking, sewing, photography (color and black and white), checkers, chess, track and field, musical groups, preaching, and more- just to name a few. In fact, the Academy is one of the premier schools in these competitions coming away with hundreds of awards throughout the history of the competition. Even our younger students are involved in the junior convention to prepare themselves for when they are old enough to compete on the regional and international stage!
